Where To Stay In Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes is an English “new town”. In fact it wasn’t until 1967 that Milton Keynes was designated a new town. It lies in the heart of the County of Buckinghamshire and is well connected to the rest of the country and is within easy reach of Birmingham, London and Oxford.
The Moore Place Hotel (part of the Best Western group) used to be a Georgian manor house and in the nearby village of Aspley Guise. It is situated 8 miles from Milton Keynes and makes the ideal base if you intend to visit either Oxford, Cambridge or London. It also has good links to Luton airport. For those families wishing to visit Woburn Abbey and Safari Park this is the ideal hotel to stay in the night before.
The Ramada Encore is set right in the centre of Milton Keynes and as you’d expect is fitted out to a high standard. All rooms are air conditioned and of course they all have en-suite facilities. Due to its central location you will find that everything you want for an enjoyable stay is only a short distance away. London has regular train services throughout the day so you can have an easy trip to the capital without having to stay in it.
For an out of the ordinary stay, think about Linford Stables. The farmhouse building has 8 guest rooms and is set in eight acres of Buckinghamshire countryside. Four of the rooms are inside the main farmhouse itself whilst the others are in the stable blocks which have been converted. Whilst staying here there is plenty for the guests to see and do. The relaxing terrace faces the Linford’s fish pond whilst there is also an opportunity of wandering around the farmhouse’s country garden. The Queen Hotel in Milton Keynes caters for the more traditional visitor. It dates back to 1872 and was originally a railway hotel and although it has been modernized to meet the needs of visitors to it today it still retain a lot of its original features.
This hotel is situated not actually situated in Milton Keynes, but rather in the village of Olney which is a short distance by car from it. It can be found at the centre of the market town of Olney andis only a short walk away from the many restaurants and friendly pubs in the village. If your stay is over Shrove Tuesday the village has its annual pancake race whilst if you are staying over a weekend, be sure to visit the Farmer’s Market. You’ll be able to buy local produce from the very people who produce it.
Another hotel that is worth considering which although not located in Milton Keynes but is only a short distance by car from the town is the Hotel Different Drummer. It can be found in Stony Straford, another local market town, this is a hotel with a colorful history. Originally the Inn that stood on this site was known as the “The Swan With Two Necks” but the name was changed to its current one in 1982.
The Georgian stone facade of this hotel which is very elegant has remained unchanged since 1743 even though much of the town was destroyed by fire. Back when it was an inn (rather than a hotel) Richard III kept the Little Princes here before they were then incarcerated in the Tower of London and where they eventually met their deaths.
